Our Technology organization is transforming how we work. At its center, the Global SAP Centre of Excellence (CoE) acts as the strategic and operational heart of Smurfit WestRock’s SAP landscape. The CoE drives SAP strategy, governance, and alignment with business objectives, oversees end-to-end SAP processes, and manages cross-functional priorities such as compliance, talent, and vendor relationships. It provides leadership, establishes standards, and enables continuous improvement across SAP functions worldwide.
The Consultant SAP – Acquire to Retire is a deep functional and system specialist within the Global SAP CoE. This role is responsible for designing, enhancing, and supporting SAP solutions for the Acquire-to-Retire (A2R) value stream. It covers L1.5+ application support and business process improvements, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
The “Maintain” stream focuses on the entire lifecycle of enterprise assets—from acquisition through maintenance to retirement or disposal. The SAP Maintain team leverages SAP asset management and plant maintenance solutions to maximize asset performance, compliance, and value.
This position requires strong expertise in maintenance management to interpret business requirements effectively. Responsibilities include designing, customizing, and documenting SAP solutions to resolve issues, implement improvements, and meet business expectations.
The Americas A2R team consists of ~6 FTE, reporting to the Manager SAP – Acquire to Retire The Americas. Occasional travel to CoE hubs (France and Mexico) is required.
1. Support, Business Process Improvement & Project Delivery
Address and resolve support tasks (L1.5–L3: BPIs, changes, bug fixes).
Research and propose process and solution enhancements.
Gather and prioritize product requirements with Global & Local Key Users.
Provide estimations for delivery, refine requirements, design solutions, and configure SAP.
Prepare functional specifications and test cases for custom developments.
Perform unit and integration testing, support UAT, and assist end users.
Document changes, enhancements, and new business processes.
Deliver training and materials to Regional & Local Key Users.
Perform cutover and migration tasks to ensure seamless transitions.
Safeguard solution integrity and ensure compliance with CoE standards and procedures.
2. Stakeholder Collaboration
Align enhancements with the Product Manager; escalate conflicts with core principles.
Collaborate with Solution Architects to ensure technical feasibility.
Partner with Service Managers to align operational practices; liaise with Development Factory, Basis, and Security teams.
Work with Project Managers on delivery tasks such as workshops, blueprinting, solution design, configuration, development, testing, training, and migration.
All SAP Consultants are part of the SAP Solutions department within the Global SAP CoE. This department manages the lifecycle of SAP applications across value streams (Finance, Sourcing, Manufacturing, etc.). It designs, delivers, optimizes, and supports SAP-enabled business solutions, ensuring they provide business value, remain fit-for-purpose, and balance global standardization with local needs. The department drives process improvement, innovation, and user experience across SAP products.
5+ years delivering SAP solutions, including configuration and custom development. (Essential)
Fluent in English (verbal and written). (Essential)
Additional language skills (Spanish or French). (Desirable)
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). (Essential)
Experience in SAP PM module. (Essential)
Experience with mobile maintenance solutions (e.g., SAP Work Manager). (Essential)
Strong knowledge of Capital Asset Construction. (Essential)
Deep understanding of maintenance processes (rounds, preventive/predictive maintenance, condition-based maintenance, shutdown planning/execution). (Essential)
Demonstrated SAP configuration, custom development, functional specification, and testing experience. (Essential)
Proven record of solution design, implementation, and support in complex/regulatory landscapes. (Essential)
Knowledge of product lifecycle management, value stream principles, and SAP delivery best practices. (Desirable)
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with focus on compliance, risk, and data quality. (Essential)
Proficiency in SAP Solution Manager, SAP Cloud ALM, SAP Signavio, MS Office, and collaboration platforms. (Essential)
