Our Technology organization is transforming how we work. At its center, the Global SAP Centre of Excellence (CoE) is the strategic and operational heart of Smurfit WestRock’s SAP landscape. The CoE drives SAP strategy, governance, and alignment with business objectives, oversees end-to-end processes, and manages risk, compliance, talent, and vendor relationships. It provides leadership, establishes standards, and enables continuous improvement and innovation across SAP functions worldwide.
The Consultant SAP – Record to Report is a functional and system specialist within the Global SAP CoE. This role designs, enhances, and supports SAP solutions in the Record-to-Report (R2R) value stream, handling L1.5+ application support and driving process improvements to ensure efficient resolution of issues.
The “Finance” stream manages all financial operations—from initial transaction recording through period-end closing and statutory reporting. The SAP Finance team leverages financial and reporting tools to deliver accurate, timely, and compliant financial management.
The role requires strong expertise in finance and accounting, including knowledge of accounting standards and SOX procedures, to translate end-user requirements into effective SAP solutions. Responsibilities include solution design, configuration, documentation, and user support.
The Americas R2R team has ~27 FTE, reporting to the Manager SAP – Record to Report The Americas. Occasional travel to Global SAP CoE hubs (France and Mexico) is required.
1. Support, Business Process Improvement & Project Delivery
Resolve L1.5–L3 support tasks, including BPIs, changes, and bug fixes.
Research and propose enhancements to processes and solutions.
Gather and prioritize requirements with Global & Local Key Users.
Provide estimations for solution delivery; refine requirements into SAP designs and configurations.
Prepare functional specifications and test cases for custom developments.
Perform unit and integration testing; support UAT and assist end users.
Document changes, enhancements, and new business processes.
Deliver training and materials for Regional & Local Key Users.
Execute cutover and migration tasks, ensuring smooth handover.
Safeguard integrity of core solutions and ensure compliance with CoE principles.
2. Stakeholder Collaboration
Align enhancements with Product Managers; escalate conflicts with core solution standards.
Partner with Solution Architects to ensure technical feasibility.
Collaborate with Service Managers to align operational practices and liaise with Development Factory, Basis, and Security teams.
Support Project Managers in delivering projects, including workshops, blueprinting, solution design, configuration, development, testing, training, and migration.
All SAP Consultants are part of the SAP Solutions department within the Global SAP CoE. This team manages the lifecycle of SAP applications across value streams such as Finance, Sourcing, and Manufacturing. It designs, delivers, optimizes, and supports SAP-enabled solutions, ensuring they provide business value, remain fit-for-purpose, and balance global standards with local requirements. The department drives process improvement, innovation, and user experience across SAP products.
5+ years delivering SAP solutions, including configuration and custom development. (Essential)
Fluent in English (verbal and written). (Essential)
Additional languages (Spanish or French). (Desirable)
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). (Essential)
Experience with SAP ECC & S/4HANA modules: FI, CO, AA, CLM, FSCM, PS-PCM. (Essential)
Experience with SAP Concur. (Desirable)
Strong understanding of finance and controlling topics: AP & AR, asset accounting, intercompany, treasury, lease management (IFRS16), etc. (Essential)
Knowledge of accounting standards and financial principles, including SOX compliance. (Essential)
Proven experience in SAP configuration, custom development, and preparation of specifications and test cases. (Essential)
Record of solution design, implementation, and support in complex/regulatory environments. (Essential)
Understanding of product lifecycle management, value stream principles, and SAP delivery best practices. (Desirable)
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with focus on compliance, risk, and data quality. (Essential)
Proficiency in SAP Solution Manager, SAP Cloud ALM, SAP Signavio, MS Office, and collaboration platforms. (Essential)
