The Consultant SAP Basis is responsible for the administration, optimization, and maintenance of SAP systems across on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments. This role ensures the availability, stability, performance, and security of the SAP landscape, supporting operations and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the SAP Platforms team.
Administer, maintain, and optimize SAP systems to ensure availability, stability, and performance.
Perform system installations, upgrades, patches, kernel updates, and configurations with minimal disruption.
Support operations across cloud and hybrid SAP environments.
Monitor and tune system performance, applying proactive measures to prevent outages.
Maintain transport management, change control, and system refresh processes.
Support backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures.
Develop and update Basis documentation, standards, and best practices.
Ensure compliance with SAP architecture and security policies in collaboration with Security Architecture.
Support IT governance, risk management, and audit requirements (SOX, GDPR, NIST, ISO 27001, COBIT).
Participate in audits and support remediation of findings.
Provide advanced troubleshooting for SAP Basis issues, including root cause analysis and incident resolution.
Monitor system logs, alerts, and platform health indicators to anticipate and resolve issues.
Collaborate with SAP Product teams on operational support and business process improvements.
Work with the Manager Global SAP Basis Administration to align priorities and operational enhancements.
Contribute to automation, optimization, and knowledge-sharing initiatives within the Basis team.
This role is part of the SAP Platforms department within the Global SAP CoE. SAP Platforms manages the technical foundation of Smurfit WestRock’s SAP landscape, including infrastructure, security, integration, release management, and data management. The team ensures system performance, compliance, and reliability while enabling innovation across SAP solutions.
5+ years in SAP Basis administration and infrastructure management. (Essential)
Experience across S/4HANA, ECC, SAP Cloud solutions, and hybrid environments. (Essential)
Expertise in SAP installation, configuration, upgrades, and performance optimization. (Essential)
Strong understanding of SAP architecture, integration patterns, and security controls. (Essential)
Proficiency with SAP Solution Manager, SAP Cloud ALM, and documentation/change management tools. (Essential)
Knowledge of compliance and security frameworks (COBIT, GDPR, SOX, NIST, ISO 27001). (Essential)
Bachelor’s degree in IT, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience). (Essential)
Fluent in business English. (Essential)
Spanish or French language skills. (Desirable)
