The Team
You will join our Insights & Technology Enablement (ITE) – Engineering – Internal Product Management team, a globally distributed team across the US, UK, and Netherlands.
The team is responsible for delivering and managing a diverse portfolio of 100+ enterprise applications, including a growing Mendix landscape. We design and build solutions that improve how our colleagues work, streamline processes, and enable better decision-making across the business.
By partnering closely with business stakeholders, data, integration, infrastructure, and security teams, the team plays a critical role in accelerating digital delivery and driving enterprise-wide efficiency and innovation.
Role Summary
Job Title: Senior Mendix Developer (Advanced Certified)
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Mendix Developer to design and deliver scalable, secure, and high-impact enterprise applications that transform how our business operates.
This role is central to accelerating Smurfit Westrock’s digital transformation journey. You will lead the end-to-end delivery of Mendix solutions, ensuring they are reliable, secure, and aligned to enterprise standards, while enabling faster time-to-value for the business.
Your expertise will influence not only the applications you build, but also the standards, practices, and capabilities of the wider development community.
Key Responsibilities / Objectives:
In this role, you will:
- Design, build and deliver Mendix applications across the full lifecycle – from discovery through to release and support handover
- Lead solution design, ensuring alignment to enterprise architecture, security, and non-functional requirements
- Drive high-quality engineering standards through code reviews, reusable components, and best practices
- Collaborate with stakeholders across business, data, integration, and infrastructure teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
- Manage application lifecycle (ALM) across development, testing, and production environments with structured release processes
- Improve application performance and reliability through monitoring, troubleshooting, and proactive technical debt management
- Embed secure-by-design principles, ensuring compliance with data, privacy, and audit requirements
- Mentor and support team members, helping to raise capability, consistency, and delivery standards
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Mendix Maia) responsibly to enhance productivity while maintaining quality and governance

Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Mendix Advanced Developer certification (minimum requirement)
- Experience in software delivery, including working with Mendix in an enterprise environment
- Proven experience in leading solution design and providing technical direction
- Strong knowledge of ALM, CI/CD, version control, and release management
- Demonstrated expertise in secure-by-design development, including roles, access controls, and integration security
- Experience working with enterprise integrations (e.g. APIs, REST/SOAP) and data modelling
- Ability to mentor and guide other developers, driving quality and consistency
- Experience using AI-supported development tools in a responsible and controlled way
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
